About the Residency
Classical Indian vocalist Manjiri Asanare Kelkar, with Sanjay Deshpande on Tabla and Shri. Suyog Kundalkar on Harmonium, visited New Mexico for a weekend residency with UWC-USA students, and a public performance at GiG Performance Space in Santa Fe. Residency programming included classes in historical context and Hindustani music theory, stylistic demonstrations, private lessons for students in voice, harmonium, and tabla, and a school performance.
About the Artist
Manjiri is the daughter of renowned Tabla maestro Shri Anand Asnare who initiated her into classical music. She was trained for 20 years by the renowned guru Pt. Madhusudhan Kanetkar. She also had the privilege of receiving Taleem from the world-renowned vocalist Gaan Sraraswati Kishoritai Amonkar. She has performed in major music festivals throughout India and has received the prestigious Ustd. Bismmila Khan award, Pt. Kumar Gandharva Award and very recently the coveted GAAN SARASWATI award.
